About Colby Chester

Document Actions

Colby Chester has been an avid still photographer for more than forty-five years. He has worked in both 35mm and medium format, preferring the versatility of the former over the years. He moved skeptically into the digital format a few years ago, which he uses almost exclusively now. His images have been published in literary journals and art magazines, most recently in the December 2004 issue of the Seattle Review.

In addition to his photography, Mr. Chester has published a book of poetry (Seizing Paradise) and written several projects for radio presentation on NPR and local stations in Seattle and Los Angeles. He has also enjoyed a career as an actor, appearing in film and television. Among his credits are such films as The Hindenburg, Executive Action, and Oliver Stone's Salvador. He was a regular on daytime's The Young and The Restless for three years and appeared in more than a hundred episodic television episodes in the seventies and eighties, before moving to the Pacific Northwest.

Currently, Mr. Chester is actively involved in environmental issues both locally and internationally, joining many others in promoting the virtues of sustainability and the ethics of enlightened minds such as John Muir, Aldo Leopold, Loren Eiseley, David Suzuki, Peter Matthiessen, and Rachel Carson, to name a few.

He makes his home in Seattle, Washington, where he is close to the natural world from which he draws continued sustenance and which provides him with a wealth of inspiration.
